Varkala offers a holidays not just for the body but the mind as well. This place has been pilgrim’s paradise since the 12 th centaury. The Janardhana temple located here is nearly 2000 years old, this place is also referred to as the ‘southern Kashi’.

Every year thousands of pilgrims from all corners of the globe visit this place to perform ‘Shraddha’ a ritual from the Hindu religion which is performed free the souls of the lost loved ones from the cycle of rebirth and to give them eternal piece.

It is believed that this is the place most suited for this ritual. Spiritual importance of this place is again boosted up by the Sivagiri Mutt, established by the spiritual leader Sree Narayan Guru.
